Document Summary

Bio 200_evolutionary biology-lecture 14: symbioses and theory of island biogeography. When a species evolves due to interactions with another species. When two or more organisms interact in more or less permanent relationships. They have a symbiosis between fungus and green algae/cyanobacteria. Fungus cannot make their own food but the cyanobacteria can make their own food. Fungal cells are enveloped with the cyanobacteria and gives food in exchange allows them to live in dry/extreme environments. Fungi that have discovered agriculture farming their own sugars. Prey items usually don"t die because if the parasite is too deadly the parasite then dies too. They lost chlorophyll so they lost their ability to photosynthesize so they can"t make their own food, they then absorb this from their plant host. There are two types: complete ectoparasites and semi parasites because some have completely lost their ability while others still have some use of photosynthesis. A local parasitic plant mentioned earlier in another lecture.
