Document Summary

Professor coan layers of the airway and their functions. Describe the differences between bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli and their significance in respiration. There are 23 generations of branching of the airway. first 16 airways (from trachea terminal bronchioles) considered the conducting portion of the airway no gas exchange. The last 7 generations (respiratory bronchioles alveoli) are considered the respiratory portion of the airway where gas exchange occurs. Bronchi have cartilage (cartilage plates) and bronchioles do not. Trachea primary bronchi secondary bronchi tertiary bronchi bronchioles terminal bronchioles respiratory bronchioles alveolar ducts. Trachea is a flexible tube with a c-shaped hyaline cartilage rings. Primary bronchi divide into left and right to supply each lung. Secondary bronchi supply each lobe of the lung. Ru lobar bronchi is called eparterial bronchus tertiary bronchi supply each bronchopulmonary segment. 10 in r lung 8 in l lung the terminal bronchioles mark the end of the conduction part of the airway.
