Document Summary

Should consume 2-3 fish meals per weak. When given linolenic acid, the body can make other omeg-3 fa"s. Epa and dha are receiving the greatest interest as the body can only make limited amounts of these omega-3"s. They are found in deep sea fish like salmon, char, mackerel, herring, cod. The epa/dha content tends to be high in grilled, baked or broiled fish. Fish used for frying in a fast food setting or in frozen products have lower dha/epa. Fish oil supplements raise ldl cholesterol in some ppl. Supplements lack key nutrients fish provide like iodine and selenium. Fish oils contain naturally high levels of the two most toxic vitamins, a & d. Fish that are more heavily contaminated ten to be larger fish which feed on smaller fish and have mercury build up. Shark, swordfish, mackerel, tuna steak (albacore), tilefish. Fish lower in mercury: shrimp, light tuna, salmon, pollock, catfish.
