ANT 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: American Anthropological Association, Project Camelot, Ethnography
Document Summary
Field notes: daily logs, journals, descriptions of events, notes. Tape recording, photos, videos, films: transcribe all information to keep all participants protected. Tape recording is useful but controversial in hiding participant identity must. These capture more information in detail and things we may not actually notice (more than written notes do because of time, loss of memory, not being able to capture the moment) But should still be paired with notes because information is still always missing from physical evidence of information like in photos or videos these add information, help to visualize the situation, help prove/disprove evidence, etc. Look for themes, regularities in data by playing with the data. Can use computer software"s to sort for tropes (themes) faster but quality of results. Ethnograph: relies on inputting people"s stories, information, explanations to analyze depends on quality of information put into the software and the coding scheme the themes in their words.
