The diference between mass communicaion and mass media: mass media is the means by which you can create mass communicaion. Communicaion: people interacing in such a way that a message is being sent from one person to another: grunts, clothing, facial expressions, body language, symbols, words. Most are body language and not words. Message: text, images and sounds designed to convey a message. Channel: mass media device used to transmit message. Receiver: person reading, listening or viewing the message: *gatekeeper: regulates what goes through the media. Internet has made gatekeeper almost irrelevant: feedback: the receiver responds back to the message (to the sender, selecive exposure: the receiver selects what he/she wishes to be. Intrapersonal communicaion: speaking to yourself; thinking. Interpersonal communicaion: two people communicaing with each other. Group of friends trying to decide what to do tonight. When ceo sends email to everyone in the company. Public communicaion: someone communicaing with a large group of people in a public seing.
