External taxes is okay (ben franklin) because americans don"t need to buy those goods. Representation is key to making taxes legitimate. External - taxes on things like trade. Internal - taxes on goods within the country. Colonists rejected because it was an internal tax that was not representative. Parliament claims that they are doing this for the colonists. Don"t know how to react to new laws. Overtime colonists realize that these taxes are not acceptable. Parliament still had debt that they needed to pay off. They are simply designed to raise money from colonists. Colonists think that they should have a say. Colonists write to the king and parliament. New form of political action- non importation. Non importation is important because it works. Intimidation to get people to stop buying taxed goods. Two categories of imperial reform in wake of the seven years war. Reforms intended to secure and stabilize the western frontier. Broadens revolution (political or social awareness) (ex.
