Victim"s roles: annual number of victimizations in the u. s. is 24 million. Economic loss- cost of goods taken during crimes added to productivity losses caused by pain, injury and emotional trauma, estimated cost of victimization is in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Systems cost- cost of maintaining the judicial system annually is 450 billion dollars or 1800. 00 per u. s. citizen. Cost of juvenile crime: violent crime by juveniles costs the u. s. 158 billion dollars annually, cost to assist victims in the form of medical assistance and service programs. 30 billion: cost from loss of wages, pain, suffering and reduced quality of life = 128 billion. *chicago gang members who cops say executed 9-year-old boy initially wanted to torture him by cutting off his fingers, ears* Some victims suffer serious long term injuries such as paralysis and brain injuries. Consequences even more devastating if the individual does not have proper health coverage.
