Biol 202 let 17 (3/29/17: as a whole, cohorts (separating into different groups) Useful because there are differences between groups. Breaking a population into cohorts and studying age-specific rates in fecundity and mortality can be useful for understanding population growth (20-30 year olds have high fecundity and low mortality, 80 year olds have low fecundity and high mortality). Age structure: proportion of individuals in each cohort, within a population. Sometimes there are variation of the graph for ex sometimes we have pop of 100s on x and birth on y axis but what we look for is shape of age structure. Graphical representation of age structure s in different populations: Left graph shows kenya has large number reproductive and pre-reproductive individuals. 40% of population is 15 and younger, as a result the population is expected to double in 30 years. Large number reproductive population = higher likelihood likely of growing.
