Self concept (cognitions about ability) go down and usually so does self esteem (emotions about self concept) as children get older. Self concept becomes more differentiated e. g. physical vs. academic, and then math vs. language: ability is viewed as stable (entity theories) and not related to effort (incremental theories) Social vs. objective feedback younger children accept praise as accurate: praise for an easy task may actually lower self concept in older children, the harder you have to work, the lower one"s ability for older children. Improvement over time (younger children do not interpret lack of improvement as meaning low ability) Can prevent yourself from feeling bad about yourself if you say things like school is not that important . In the first one, only 8 subjects per group: don"t have a lot of power to detect significant differences. Protagonist is asked to do something (not share, steal, physical harm) just because someone else asked them to.
