Metropolitan statistical area (msa): the core urban area with around 50k people and has adjacent cities. Micropolitical statistical area (m-psa): smaller area with around 10-50k people, smaller area, higher degree of socio economic interconnectedness to larger urban core. Suburbs: middle class, less racial diversity, republican, non-traditional. Urban core: poverty, democratic, children centered families. Suburban growth: outward extension of low density residential areas, declining old suburbs. Gentrification: revitalization of neighborhood via influx of higher income residents. Taking advantage of benefits and not putting anything into it. Regionalism: centralizing and consolidating governments and services: reducing cost of scale, suburbanites should get to free ride or frustrate larger plans, clear lines of responsibility by managing public policy and voter accountability. Governments offer various services for various prices such as tax rates. Persons and businesses relocate to preferred community using vote with their feet . Annexation: extension of city boundaries over unincorporated areas, sometimes requires residents" approval.
