Donald fiske (1949) found 5 factors that may have been the first emergence of the list big five. Big 5 has consistently been present in samples/studies. Integration of numerous separate traits found by other psychologists. Factor analysis: categorization! compiles divergent traits under a few common labels: complex! Traits are orthogonal getting a high/low score on any one trait does not determine the high/low score of another trait. Traits may vary by geographical region, culture, gender: highly agreeable people found on east coast, women score higher than men on neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Traits: neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness/intellect.
