Big five - best way to categorize personality. Development of the five-factor model (the big five: allport and odbert (1936) lexical approach, created categories of words. Inquiring intellect: same five basic factors identified in various samples, created a human taxonomy. The five-factor model (the big five or bfi : significant consensus that the structure of personality incorporates five superordinate factors, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness to experience, remember as ocean or canoe , orthogonal independent of one another. If you have the result of one, you don"t necessarily know anything about the others. Conclusion of the person-situation debate: behavioral signature pattern of linkage between situations and behavior is a source of individuality. 3% impact study: mischel and shoda (1995) given situation x, behavior y is likely, correlation between personality and behavior, can"t predict person"s behavior in a particular situation very well just from personality.
