Important themes in text: gender similarities: women and men are more similar than different, pervasiveness of androcentrism in everything from children"s storybooks to psychological theories. Important to consider intersectionality and the multiple categories that define people"s identity and roles. Intersectionality: how different identities and experiences make each woman different within women; not all women are the same. Important areas for future research: basic tenet of intersectionality, gender and ethnicity (and other social identities) interact, gender roles are defined in the cultural context of a particular ethnic group. Intersectionality: who am i? individuals belong to multiple social groups simultaneously, asian, working class, bisexual woman, latina, high ses, professional mother. Intersectionality theory: important to consider the multiple social groups individuals occupy - the combination of groups creates a unique space with unique social meaning (cole, 2009; crenshaw, 1989; settles & buchanan, Intersectionality research: double jeopardy theory (beal, 1970; king, 1988)
