Gender as a social construction: gender is a social reality, result of cultural norms, must be taught, baby girls wear pink, and baby boys wear blue. Women and work: us & england cultural ideals (1800s) for women = motherhood and caregiving, but the stereotypical picture of the victorian woman is misleading. They started to fill up men"s jobs such as heavy works. Men and work: 1800s ideal: men = breadwinners, again, this is somewhat misleading. However, when the skilled men left, it is not easy to maintain due to the unskilled men that were left behind.
