All societies interpret the bio difference into beliefs about behaviors, rights, and resources. 80% pay gap has barely changed in a decade. Fewer large companies are run by women than men named john. Us & england cultural ideals (1800s) for women = motherhood and caregiving. But the stereotypical picture of the victorian woman is misleading. Big changes again in the 1960s % 1970s. Women"s economic independence -> divorce -> feminization of poverty. More likely than men to use resources on basic family needs. Small and poorly equipped schools, less likely to attend in rural areas. Nigeria: dozens of ethnic groups, languages, several major religions. Japan: math/science, memorization, standardized tests, less than 1/2 go to college. Us lags behind in test scores, but does better in grad school and entrepreneurship. Nothern europe: exams and tracking from early ages, clearer school-to-work transition.
