Ltm - archive of info about past events and things we have learned unlimited duration. Ltm and stm interaction: chunking- use ltm to incr stm capacity; meaning that is needed to chunk info from ltm. All info going into ltm go thru stm and all info coming out of ltm has to go thru stm (gatekeeper) Ltm like hard drive, stm like ram maintenance rehearsal - repeat info using inner speech to maintain in stm. Longer info is held in stm, more likely it is transferees to ltm. Serial position curve subjects presented w/ list of items one after other, recall items in order presented (murdoch) Recalled: 743286 (all right) or 826374 (all wrong: probability of correctly recalling an item as function of its serial position in list. List presented, subjects count back by 3s for 30sec b4 reporting items. Items in stm caused to fade, recency disappears.
