PHI 2200C Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Hypothetical Imperative, Categorical Imperative, Ethical Egoism
Document Summary
Distinction between them in terms of kant"s form of morality. Involves the idea of how does it benefit me for example, if, you want to buy a new car, you get a second job. Or if you want a promotion, you work extra hard. Lies are immoral, truths are moral something in between in amoral. It"s not wrong to do something for selfish reasons but it isn"t moral either. Enticement (some benefit to me) and threat (i don"t want to cheat on my test because i might get caught) Morality can"t depend on your mood, but all of this depends and is conditional on your mood. But kant says who you like and what you hate doesn"t depend on your mood. Because it is all about the absolute value of you. A new car is not an absolute value. You might want to work extra for it or work extra ang go to europe for vacation.
