BIOL 102 Lecture 24: Chapter 52
Document Summary
Ecology= the scientific study of the interactions between organisms and the enviro. Interactions determine the distribution of organisms and their abundance. Global ecology: examines the influence of energy and materials on organisms across the biosphere, biosphere= the global ecosystem, the sum of all the planet"s ecosystems. Landscape ecology: focuses on the exchanges of energy, material, and organisms across multiple ecosystems, landscape/seascape= a mosaic of connected ecosystems. Ecosystem ecology: emphasizes energy flow and chemical cycling among various biotic and abiotic components, ecosystem= the community of organisms in an area and the physical factors with which they interact. Community ecology: deals with the whole array of interacting species in a community, community= a group of populations of diff species in an area. Population ecology: focuses of fators affecting pop size over time, population= a group of individuals of the same species living in an area. Organismal ecology: studies how an organism"s structure, physiology, and behavior meet enviro challenges.
