ECON 151 Lecture Notes - Lecture 26: Microcredit, Takers
Document Summary
Assigning someone to a treatment does not mean that they will be treated. Assigning individual to a treatment group, does not mean that she will be treated: Often, a minority of individuals take up new policies, Lack of information, time constraints, other equivalent programs, transaction costs, transportation costs, stigma Ex: microcredit in a village, only 18% of the village takes up in marocco (cr pon et al, aej: ae 2015) Summer school to under-performing young children in france, only 22% accepted. Implements tend to think that their program is so great that almost everyone will take it. We call w t the take-up rate/participation rate in the treatment group. Not supposed to get treatment but get treated anyways. Assignment to control does not necessarily mean that the subject is not treated. Some subject managed to get treated anyway. Sometimes the policy maker make mistakes i. e. treat the wrong subject.
