The purpose of this assignment is to challenge you to exercise your sociological imagination. The department of sociology and the department of human. Development and family life education are co-sponsoring a poverty simulation exercise. The poverty simulation will be held at the bashinsky field house, September 15th from 6 to 8 in the evening. In order to prepare your brief report you will irst need to participate in the poverty simulation. Participants in the simulation will be assigned to families facing a variety of challenges (e. g. , unemployment, homelessness, disability). Immediately after the simulation exercise, write out a summary of your experience; take special note of the obstacles you encountered in your quest for food, shelter, and clothing. Record also your emotional reactions and your frustrations in particular. These notations that you complete after the completion of the exercise will help immeasurably when you sit down to write out the brief report.
