If someone would meet the criteria for depression but they just suffered a loss of an intimate then they wont get a diagnosis of major depression unless the symptoms last for longer than two months. Complicated = very severe symptoms or longer than 2 months. Tell someone who has a loved one in the army that they have died. Follow-up three month later as significantly went down. Depression from 87 to 12 from the first month to the 3rd month. If you translate these symptoms, about half the people would meet the criteria for depression but 15-20 % after 3 months still have the symptoms. After a year only 10% remain very depressed. Model for all kinds of losses, not just when someone has died. Just like inside a child loss her friends, home, team which came be the same as bereavement. Research: no difference to loss of a love one from other loses, complicated and uncomplicated; severe and mild.
