Document Summary

Study wanted to examine associations between spiritual religious beliefs and psychiatric symptoms. Participants: sample of 7,403 adults from england. People who are spiritual in the absence of religion are more likely to have mental health problems. Researchers wanted to know if there was a connection between mental health and spirituality. Also you want to go out and see what is already available. Dependent variable= the factor we are trying to predict (depends on the independent variable) Independent variable=(our predictor) the factor we believe will affect the dependent variable. Operational definition=how we measure our constructs of interest. Examine the relationship between an independent variable and a dependent variable as they naturally occur (without manipulating it) Not at all spiritual, some what spiritual, very much spiritual. Group comparison=relationship between membership in a group and another variable. Cross-sectional=get information at one point in time. Allows us to establish if independent variable was present before dependent variable.
