Document Summary

Introspection: method to figure out what"s in the mind. Participants are asked to tell everything that comes to their mind. Birds of a flock together- similar values and interests, so similarities are likeable. Opposites attract- similarities can be boring so it"s interesting to be with someone different. Hindsight bias- people can overestimate predicting the outcome. Hypothesis needs to be testable to work in the scientific method. How variables are being measured need to be clarified with operational definition. Case study- usually a very small sample (often one person) because there"s something unusual about them. A lot of in-depth analysis of this person. Observations, tests, medical history, surveys, lots of assessments. Not useful for making conclusions about humans in general (not good for generalizing). Naturalistic observation- researchers are using their senses to observe without interfering. In the test subject"s natural environment for natural results.
