Extinction : occurs if the responses stop producing reinforcement. Stimulus generalization : the response produced when a new stimulus is similar to the original stimulus. Discrimination : this occurs when someone is reinforced for responding to one stimulus but not another. Superstitious behavior : behavior that is linked to reinforcement by coincidence. Token economies : a way of getting people to express a response. For example a mental hospital staff can reinforce patients who behave in a desired fashion using tokens, chips, points, or other secondary reinforcers. Secondary responses : neural objects that patients can later trade in for. Primary responses: items that are naturally pleasurable such as a favorite food or drink.
