Document Summary
Central nervous system (cns) - the brain and the spinal cord. Peripheral nervous system (pns ) - nerves cells in the body that are not apart of the central nervous system. The pns includes the somatic and autonomic nervous systems. They are the basic units of the nervous system, cells that receive, integrate and transmit info to the nervous system. Communicate with others through chemical signals and form neural networks. Reception : the chemical signals are received from surrounding/neighboring neurons. Transmission : the signals are passed to other receiving neurons. Sensory neurons : they detect information from the physical world and pass it onto the brain. Motor neurons : they direct muscles to contract and/relax. Dendrite : branch like extensions of a neuron that detect information from other neurons. Cell body : where information is collected from other neurons and that information is integrated.
