Memory
• The store model- a memory system with separate storage
components
• Evidence of sensory memory
o Presented subjects with arrays of letters, exposed to for 20th of a
second, after exposed to array, exposed to tone either high,
moderate, or low. Occur at varying delays after array is
presented
o 10th of a second
• Episaldic buffer- information from long term memory brought here to
be used
• Central executive- allocates resources
• Long-Term Memory (A permanent repository?)
o Flashbulb memories, (extremely vivid, detailed memories of a
certain event. Ex twin towers)(fake)
o everything we experience is in long term memory
o Hypnotically- induced remembering, hypnosis makes people
remember memories from womb(fake)
o Penfields ESB studies remember memories from childhood in
extreme detail from electric stimulation(fake)
• Sensory memory
o Very brief
o Large capacity
o Information untransformed
o Loss through overlaying
• STM
o 15-20 sec for unrehearsed
o information represented phonemically or visuospatial
o loss through decay without rehearsal
