Crime rate - unit of population (population fluctuates) The dark figure of crime - unreported crimes. Uniform crime reporting (ucr) - a statistical reporting program run by the fbi and publishes crime annually, lacks details. National crime victimization survey (ncvs) - an annual survey of selected american households. The national incident-based reporting system - incident driven, not summary-based, gathers many details about each criminal incident. Violent crimes - murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Property crimes - motor vehicle theft, burglary, arson, and larceny-theft. Clearance rate - proportion of reported crimes that have been solved (arrested, but found not guilty) Exceptionally cleared - not going to investigate, even though the person did the crime (ex. murder-suicide) Murder - the unlawful killing of a human being. Forcible rape (sexual assault) - the carnal knowledge of a female/male forcibly and against her/his will, penetration is present. Sexual battery/contact - the intentional and wrongful physical contact with a person, without consent.
