Filter feeding: aquatic animals strain small food items from water (ex: baleen) Substrate feeding: live in or on their food source (ex: caterpillar) Fluid feeding: suck nutrients out of a living host (ex: mosquito) Bulk feeding: eat relatively large pieces of food; many adaptations ex: teeth, jaws, claws, fangs (ex: humans: digestion. Process of breaking down complex organic molecules into smaller molecules that can be taken into cells: mechanical: breaks food into smaller pieces increase surface area available for enzymes (ex: chewing) Chemical: enzymes break bonds though addition of water hydrolysis.
