Document Summary

A bacterium, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease, they are found in the body and will turn your body into a place where they produce more and more pathogens. Something we all want to avoid to stay healthy. Innate immunity that responds quickly to all different pathogens the same way whether the body has seen the pathogen or not. Acquired immunity adapts more slowly and learns about the pathogens prior to defeating it. Every animal has an innate immune system, only vertebras have the acquired immune system. The immune system"s first line of defense are the skin and mucous membranes. Provide other barriers to microbes trying to make their way in. Mucous membranes line all of the internal surfaces that are exposed to the outside, like the lungs. Viscus fluid, that traps microbes and helps sweep them away. The second line of defense is the inflammatory response.
