KIN-10 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Deltoid Ligament, Anatomical Terms Of Motion, Malleolus
Document Summary
The distal end of the tibia and its medial malleolus with the talus. The lateral malleolus of the fibula with the talus. Strong and stable joint due to the shapes of the articulating bones, the strength of its ligaments, and the tendons that surround it. The ankle is the region that extends from the distal region of the leg to the proximal region of the foot and contains the ankle joint. Thickenings of fascia (connective tissue) that anchors the structures that pass from leg into the foot at the ankle. Completely surrounding the joint, the articular capsule is attached superiorly to the tibia and fibula and inferiorly to the talus. Thin and weak anteriorly and posteriorly to permit dorsiflexion and plantar flexion. Extends from the medial malleolus to the talus, navicular, and calcaneus of the tarsus. Is divisible into superficial and deep parts: Strengthens the medial aspect of the ankle joint.
