KIN-10 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Hip Fracture, Iliofemoral Ligament, Joint Capsule
Document Summary
Formed by the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the hip. Very dense and strong capsule extends from the rim of the acetabulum to the neck of the femur. One of the strongest structures in the body. The circular fibers, called zona orbicularis, form a collar around. Iliofemoral ligament the neck of the femur. Thickened portion of the articular capsule extends from the anterior inferior iliac spine (aiis) of the hip bone to the intertrochanteric line of femur. Prevents hyperextension of the femur at the hip joint. Thickened portion of the articular capsule extends from pubic part of the rim of the acetabulum to the neck of the femur. Prevents over abduction of the femur at the hip joint and strengthens the articular capsule. Thickened portion of the articular capsule extends from ischial wall bordering the acetabulum to the neck of the femur. Slackens during adduction and tenses during abduction, and strengthens the articular capsule.
