Females were being choosey about their habitat. Tall rice fields served as physical barrier. Migrate south in fall; use open brushy areas in fall. Winter choose brushy areas with palm trees. As a result of previous directional selection. Lough: inland body of saltwater connected to the ocean by a narrow strait. Mussels absent from most parts of the lough. Present where streams enter the lough and steep rock slopes. Predatory crab was very sensitive to salinity and required saltwater to survive; limited by salinity.
