AMY-2A Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Hydrolysis, Vaporization, Negative Feedback
Document Summary
Organic molecules = having carbon; it is easy to connect to bc it has 4 valence electrons: humans are organic, but also a sack of water. Dissolving- separation of solute molecules to solvent due to attraction, it is a physical reaction, dissolving facilitates reaction, important for water ex. sugar hanging out with tea and not each other due to attraction. Saturation point- enough solute and solvent being attracted. Dissociation- a molecule breaking up into component molecules, you are changing the molecule chemical reaction. Polymerization reaction- make polymers and break them. Polymer- a chain of repeating units called molymers, a link of similar. Hydrolysis- water added to break down molecules. Ex. glucose + glucose + glycogen + h20. Dehydration synthesis (aka condensation synthesis)- taking small. Ex. glycogen + h2o glucose + glucose + glucose molecules and turning it into a large molecules by removing water (anabolic)
