Civilization = civis (citizen), civitas (city), civilitas (polite behavior) (polite is rooted in polis which also means city ) Social norms, the concept of being uncivilized means not behaving properly for the city. Start of nationalism (kind of), place become proxy for people. Permenalization of building a life in a place it becomes a part of you and your identity.
