Culture controls our minds and bodies: culture is foundational, for us, this means it is our culture that determines how we see the world rather than our individual traits. Norms: socially accepted rules for behavior (what to do and what not to do) Culture is made up of material and non-material elements. Social structure: status: position in social structure, role: the sum of expectations about the behavior attached to a particular status, social structure: a system of statuses and roles. Social structure influences behavior: our behavior is determined by, our status (our position, our role (others" expectations) Lifelong process by which individuals : acquire cultural competency , get a sense of themselves as an individual. Lifelong process by which cultures : perpetuate existing social structure.
