Cooperative learning: decreased prejudice (racial, ethnic, religious, more positive cross-gender relations, more social acceptance of students with disabilities, better attitude towards school. Academic: greater achievement; higher level of performance, cognitive benefits of giving explanation as well as hearing it. Motivational: students motivate one another to succeed, focus on attributing success to effort. Instruction/classroom management: on task rate is typically much higher, students translate teacher talk into kid talk, peers are good role models d. Immediate feedback: the more immediate feedback, the more power it has, more repetitions are available if needed. Group goal: this gives students the reason to work together. Individual accountability: gives the student a reason to learn. Figure out which one they are keeping track of. Form heterogeneous teams of 3-5 members: based on gender, race, ability, everything, change teams periodically. May take a week or 2 for team to gel. Every 6 weeks or marking period to keep the teams together before switching.
