Instruction that meets the needs of the students. Figuring out what your students already know: if they have prior knowledge, you want to add to it. Hard part- how do we deal with differences in prior knowledge. Ability grouping or tracking based on subjects: problem- teacher has to split time between students, bad problem- lower levels; bad influences on each other. Instruction is interesting and useful to students: put a lot of effort and time into it. Time is sufficient for students to master content: all children can learn if they have sufficient time . Not true for all students with learning disabilities. True for the rest of us though. Us is ranked on the middle lower side on average in 15 year olds. 8 year olds: massachusetts, minnesota, vermont, nj, pa are higher than the us average, no difference, schooling, shanghai, singapore, hong kong- 220 days, korea, finland, taipei- 225 days, germany, australia- 230 days, us- 180 days.
