EDPSY 014 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Educational Psychology
Document Summary
It"s not what the teacher thinks, it"s what the kids are thinking. There is no evidence that reducing class size helps students unless reduced to 15 students or below. The teacher needs to change teaching, not the size of the class. If it is learnable, teaching has a science to it: feedback is what matters, it gives scientific background. Altogether, we study educational psychology to learn facts about misconceptions. Problem solving approach- an approach to thinking about and solving problems encountered during teaching: observation- collecting information. If it doesn"t work start over by making new observations. If it does work, then start on the next problem. If there is a change; we find out what is going on. You might need to use reinforcement or punishment. Reinforcement- a consequence that will strengthen someone"s future behavior whenever behavior is preceded by a specific stimulus.
