Audiologist treatment of the hearing mechanism part iii. Improve signal-to-noise ratio (snr) to improve speech understanding. As an alternate to hearing aids due to: specific needs, financial constraints, cognitive impairments, limited dexterity. Use radio waves operating on certain frequencies to transmit sound. Speaker wears a microphone that transmits sound directly to listener wearing a receiver. Can be used with hearing aid or cochlear implant or without. Reduces effect of distance from the tv. Alert hearing impaired individual to environmental sounds: alarm clocks, doorbell, bed shaker, smoke detector, baby monitor. Often uses vibration, lights, high intensity sounds. Direct connection/streaming to hearing aid or ci with any bluetooth device: cell phone, tablets, computers. Clearer, more natural sounding due to improved wireless technology. Promote understanding of amplification including realistic expectations. Maximize sensory input and integration by providing best possible auditory and visual signal. Understand and minimize psychological and social problems resulting from hearing impairment.
