The lens model and actuarial judgment vs. clinical judgment. Often used as inputs to decisions, but not always. The actual to be judged state of the world. Often this can"t be easily assessed (or we wouldn"t have to make a judgment: judgment. Our estimate of that to be judged value. The variables or indicators that we can actually perceive and use to make our judgments. Values closer to 1. 00 (or -1. 00) represent a stronger relationship. A value of 0 represents no linear relationship. Using the lens model to study judgment: select a set of cases to be judged. Ideally samples from a real, non-laboratory judgment situation. These are the judge models ; they summarize each judge"s. Policy : if the criterion values for the cases are known, use multiple regression to predict the criterion on the basis of the same cues. This is the environment model or the actuarial model . If possible, compare the judgments to the criterion values.
