Document Summary

One gene one enzyme hypothesis isn"t quite correct. Polypeptide = a chain of amino acids. Some proteins are just 1 folded-up polypeptide. The protein hemoglobin is made of 4 polypeptides. Make an mrna copy of a gene that can actually leave the nucleus. Rna polymerase builds a complementary rna strand. The 2 dna strands then separate (open up) Rna polymerase slides along the dna template strand. Dna template strand used to construct complementary rna base pairing. Dna coding strand not used to build rna; sequence matches* the rna product. Terminator sequence causes rna polymerase to stop. Rna must be modified right after transcription. 5" cap and 3" poly a tail added. 7-methyl g cap addition to 5" end. Needed for proper exit of mrna from nucleus and binding to ribosome. Tailing: adding a poly a (adenine) tail. Snrnp ( snurps ) bind to each end of the intron. Create a loop of the intron region of rna.
