Document Summary

Being in a group can lead you to do things you wouldn"t normally do on your own . Not having the same sense of self. When people do bad things, is it because they are bad apples . Or do people do bad things because they are in a bad barrel . See what would happen when you put good people in bad situations (jail) Lived in cells for 24 hours cut off from usual surroundings. Guards only worked 8 hrs. and then continued being students. Boundaries and real personal identity was erased. Nice people became assholes, and healthy people became ill. Many developed severe stress reactions and had to be released, no one ever quit. Said to have violated ethical guidelines, but at the time they were approved; all participants contested. Forced to call off 2 week experiment after only 6 days. They were paid for doing the experiment. Made them want to feel less powerful.
