Document Summary

Set 8 catobolism and anabolism [conservese energy in the form of atp or heat ] catobolism. Enzymes are involved to break the bonds of larger molecules in order to extract energy and form simpler end products anabolism. They are affected by temperature and ph denaturation. Weak bonds that maintain the shape of an enzyme are broken caused by heat, low or high ph or certain chemicals. Prevents the substrate from attaching to the active site. Nonfunctional enzymes block metabolic reactions and can lead to cell death enzymes types: simple, conjgated enzymes, cofactors , coenzymes simple enzyme that consists of protein alone conjugated enzymes apoenzyme(protein portion of the enzyme) + cofactor(non protein portion) Metallic cofactors (iron, copper, magnesium, manganese, zinc, cobalt, selenium, etc. ) Assist with precise functions between enzyme and substrate. Help bring the active site and substrate close together. Organic compounds that work with the apoenzyme to alter the substrate.
