BIOL 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Lysosome, Semipermeable Membrane, Hydrophile
Document Summary
Tree of life: bacteria, prokaryotes, archaea, eukaryotes. It would take too much energy if our bodies were just one big cell. It isn"t convenient for transporting nutrients and wastes around the cell, from the nucleus, to the outside of the cell. Surface area to volume ratio must be small, which is why cells need to divide. Smooth er- lipids synthesis, detoxification of molecules that come in the cell. Golgi apparatus- shipping and packaging, takes what"s made by er and tags them with molecular tags that tells them where they need to go. Vesicle- when membrane closes in on itself- serves as transport for molecules in these lipid sacks. Hydrophilic heads face the outside and inside of cell because there is water and solutes on the inside and outside (extracellular substances & cytoplasm) Aquaporins- allow water into and out of the cells.
