Document Summary

Pao2 can be higher than 100 need to lower o2 being given. Paco2 is controlled by the lungs respiratory parameter. Hco3 is controlled by the kidneys metabolic parameter. The lung can change the paco2 in minutes= rapid change. The kidneys alter the hco3 over hours to days= slow change. Respiratory = opposite: ph is high, pco2 is low (alkalosis, ph is low, pco2 is high (acidic) Metabolic = equal: ph is high, bicarb/hco3 is high (alkalosis, ph is low, bicarb/hco3 is low (acidosis) Only need to know svo2: 65-75 for mixed venous and venous. If blockage or tissue/organ failure, so then its not being perfused. (hf, sepsis, sickle cell anemia). If one does not saturate with o2, then spo2 drops: main function of the pulmonary system is gas exchange and for that to occur normally there needs to be ventilation and perfusion.
