Subordinate group whose members have significantly less control or power over their lives than do members of a dominant/majority group. 5 characteristics of a minority/subordinate group o unequal treatment o distinguishing physical or cultural traits o involuntary membership o awareness of subordination o in group marriage. There"s no place in the workplace for sexual treatment. White privilege - privileges are already set out for white people that they don"t have to think about. People of the opposite race (black people) have to think about those rights and if they"re given to them because they"ve been denied before. Ethnic groups: based on cultural differences (language, attitudes towards marriage/parenting, food habits) Religious groups: religious beliefs that are different from dominant faith. Sexual orientation: defined by a person"s physical/sexual attraction to their own sex. Transgender: a person whose sense of personal identity + gender doesn"t correspond with the sex they were born as. Social construct- social meaning a society places on race.
