Autonomy vs. shame and doubt: children want to do things on their own like put on their own shoes and should be encouraged to do so. Positively supports them and doesn"t ridicule them: if child is ridiculed as a child, then they will think they can"t do things later on. Believe they are incompetent: erickson"s theory will always be something vs. something, positive outcome first then negative second outcome, and what happens in one stage will effect the next. Emotions: subjective reactions to experience that are associated with physiological and behavioral changes. Influence behavior: survival: if we fear something we know we need to leave the situation, exploration. Influence mental and physical health: angry people more likely to have heart attacks, stressed out people more likely to get sick at finals. Basic emotions: emotions present at birth and early in first year.
