Document Summary

Toward the end of world war ii we thought about going back to isolation. We created a couple of international institutions to change the international arena so we didn"t have to interfere as often. Pushed democracy wherever we could, especially in europe. Created the bretton woods system to increases trade as well as the general agreement on tariffs and trade. +both of these were designed to suit the united states. +we will never get these deals again because we"ll never be so dominant. We also used the atomic bomb to intimidate others until we realized it wouldn"t benefit the united states to use it. The united states didn"t understand how other countries viewed the international arena, especially the ussr. The ussr wanted to insure they"d never be attacked by germany again after world. +didn"t want hostile neighbors which they thought democratic nations would be. +the ussr went back on their yalta promise.
