Chapter 5 love and choosing a life partner. Intense affection: a feeling of attraction resulting from sexual desire, enthusiasm or fondness, beloved person, a score at zero in tennis. Love is a deep and vital (critical) emotion: satisfied personal needs, cannot satisfy all needs, legitimate vs illegitimate needs. Illegitimate needs = low self esteem often leads to people relying on their partner for everything (24/7 attention) Involves intimacy: emotional intimacy = built through self-disclosure, sexual intimacy, commitment, consciously investing in a relationship. More than of us adults believe in love at first sight. Almost of us young adults believe in one true love: but just of all adults believe in one true love. Love at first sight + one love stems from romanticism. 1- eros = intense emotion and powerful feelings/desires ( erotic comes from eros) 2- storge = deepening mutual commitment, respect, friendship. 3- pragma = rational assessment of potential partners assests and liabilities.
