Gender stratification
• Presumption that men and women have unequal access to power, prestige, property on
basis of sex
o Typically, abuse from men
o Shift in culture from patriarchy to matriarchy
• Sex typing
o Association of some activities of as either male or female
o Greater prestige typically give to “male activities”
o Sex typing fluid, inter-culturally
• Gender role socialization
o Traditional gender-role patterns influential in socialization of children
o Parents teach children what they become
